EV & Hybrid Class 5 MOT Testing at Shaikly Motor Company

Our fully equipped test centres and certified MOT technicians are trained to work safely on high-voltage systems, ensuring your EV or hybrid remains compliant, safe and roadworthy.
We understand the differences between traditional engines and electric drivetrains, so your Class 5 MOT is carried out correctly and without guesswork.

What is a Class 5 MOT for EV or Hybrid Vehicles?

A Class 5 MOT is required for:

  • Minibuses

  • Ambulances

  • Passenger vehicles with 13–16 seats

  • Certain commercial transport vehicles

EV and hybrid Class 5 vehicles undergo the same DVSA-regulated checks as petrol and diesel, but without emissions testing and with additional awareness around high-voltage safety.

If your vehicle is electric or hybrid, the test process is still straightforward and follows DVSA guidelines.

When Is My MOT Due?

To check if your electric or hybrid vehicle has a valid MOT and find out when your next test is due, visit the DVSA website and enter your vehicle registration number. Alternatively, you can refer to your current MOT certificate, which will display the expiry date.

You can book your MOT test at any time before it expires. However, to preserve your existing renewal date, the test must be carried out up to one month (minus a day) before your current MOT expires. For example, if your MOT expires on 27th June, the earliest date you can take the test and retain the same renewal date for the following year is 28th May.

EV and Hybrid Free MOT Reminders

It’s easy to lose track of when your MOT test is due, but ensuring it stays up to date is crucial. Driving without a valid MOT certificate could lead to a £2,500 fine and may even invalidate your car insurance.

To help you stay on top of your renewal, we offer an MOT reminder service for electric and hybrid vehicles. Simply enter your details below, and we’ll send you email or text reminders ahead of your next test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do electric and hybrid vehicles need a Class 5 MOT?
Yes. If your vehicle falls under Class 5 (minibus, ambulance or 13–16 passenger vehicle), it must have an annual MOT regardless of whether it’s petrol, diesel, electric or hybrid. EVs skip the emissions test, but all other DVSA safety checks still apply.
Is a Class 5 MOT different for electric and hybrid vehicles?
The test is largely the same. The only difference is that EVs and hybrids do not require an emissions test. Our technicians also follow additional safety procedures around high-voltage systems.
What does a Class 5 MOT include for EVs and hybrids?
A Class 5 MOT for EVs and hybrids includes all standard DVSA checks such as brakes, lights, steering, suspension, tyres, body structure and safety equipment. We also ensure high-voltage components are safe and externally secure.
How much is a Class 5 MOT for an electric or hybrid vehicle?
The price is the same as any other Class 5 MOT. Shaikly Motor Company follows the official DVSA MOT fee: £59.55. No hidden charges and no upselling — a fair MOT every time.
Can I book a Class 5 EV or hybrid MOT online?
Yes. You can book your Class 5 MOT online by entering your registration, selecting your preferred location and choosing a time that suits you. It’s quick and easy.
